| Pub | Beer | Impression | How to Get There |
| The Waterloo | John Smith’s Cask | Really nice pub. I wouldn't normally bother with a pub that just served John Smith's but it's always good here, and the pub is a good place to visit and a very useful meeting place because it's so easy to find. The pub has an undeserved reputation for being a bit rough because of a few incidents ten years ago! Since then, the pub has really improved and is a very nice place to drink. | Number 4 bus from Leeds drops you right outside (The Waterloo is the terminus). The bus stop in Leeds is outside Yate's Wine Lodge on Boar Lane. Or you could get the train to New Pudsey, but it's a bit of a faff - Walk out of the station and down to the end of the road, which is Bradford Road. Turn left at the end and go straight on at the roundabout. Turn left at the next roundabout and keep walking. The Waterloo's on your right. Walk takes about 15-20 minutes. |
| The Fox and Grapes | Black Sheep, Tetley's and a guest (Old Speckled Hen last time I went) | A very old style pub which does good food and good beer. Comfortable and cosy inside, the beer garden doesn't exploit the excellent views that could be had with a little redesign. | Come out of the Waterloo and turn right towards Pudsey. Almost immediately, take a right onto Gibraltar Road. About 10 yards down, come off Gibraltar road to the left following the public footpath until you reach a gate. Go through the stile to the right of this gate, and follow the path for about 10 minutes until you reach a road. Walk left up the road and turn right at the junction. The pub is a little further down on your right. |
| The Bankhouse | Black Sheep, Landlord and Tetley's | A bit like the Fox and Grapes in style inside - comfortable and cosy. The beer garden is really spectacular. On a summer's day you can see for miles across the valley. | Come out of the Fox and Grapes and head right. Follow the road round the corner to the left. When you come to a junction, you should see a pub called the White Cross up the hill to your right. Head towards that, following the road round to the left. You'll see a sign pointing right saying 'Fulneck Moravian settlement'. Turn right here (Bankhouse Lane) and walk to the end It's about a five minute walk and the pub's on your left. |
| The World's End | Daleside Bitter, a guest and others | Pudsey's best beer outlet and a cracking pub to boot. | Walk back up Bankhouse Lane to the end and turn right. Turn left almost immediately down Carlisle Road and keep going until you reach the main road. Turn right and follow the main road through Pudsey. Go past the Butcher's Arms, through the traffic lights, and the World's End is on your left. |
| The Pig and Whistle | Landlord and Black Sheep | Another really nice pub with good beer. | Come out of the back of the World's End (the upstairs entrance) and walk out into the courtyard. Turn right following a path round the left of the building until you reach a road. Turn left here and then right at the main road (Richardshaw Lane). Walk down the hill, going over the bypass, until you reach the pub, which is very near the bottom on your left. |
| The Jug and Barrel | Landlord, Worthington's 1744, Magnet and two others | Great pub with great beer - does some really good blues, jazz and rock gigs too, with the majority being blues. Challenge the landlord to a game of chess if you're feeling clever! | Come out of the Pig and Whistle and head left down the hill. Turn right at the bottom and keep walking. The Jug and Barrel's about five minutes walk on your left. On the same side of the road as the pub, the 72 or 508 bus will take you back into Leeds, the 91 will take you to Headingley, Kirkstall, Chapel Allerton and Halton Moor. Cross the road for 72 to Bradford, or 508 to Halifax. |
