Pub | Beer | Impression | How to Get There. |
Merrion Coffee House or Swan Street Cafe in Leeds | Breakfast! | Both places are reasonably priced and the food's edible! | Bus to Leeds at about 10.30am. Merrion Coffee House is upstairs in the Merrion Centre, above the Phono nightclub. The Swan Street Cafe, is on Swan Street, which is round the back of City Varieties, and runs parallel to the Headrow. The Cafe's opposite the back entrance to City Varieties, and it's upstairs. |
Prince of Wales, Leeds | Black Sheep | Can be a bit of a dive, but I like the place a lot. | Head towards the train station, it's just round the corner from the Scarbrough Hotel. |
Bar T'At, Ilkley | 8 changing | Cramped but nice. They serve good food too. | Get the Ilkley train. Come out of the station and turn right. Go straight over the road and take your next left. It's over the other side of the car park. |
The Bowling Green, Otley | Usually 3 or 4, changing | Bizarre pub with lots of strange things in it. There's a coffin table, stuffed animal heads and all sorts of weird objects there! Doesn't do food. | Get the X84 bus to Otley bus station. Get off the bus and walk back along the length of the bus to the main road. Turn right and it's just on your right after the little park. |
Whitakers Arms, Otley | Black Sheep and Whitakers Bitter | Cozy little pub. Does food on a Saturday and Sunday until 5pm | Come out of the Bowling Green, turn right, follow the main road round the corner to your right, cross over and Whitakers is just there on your left. |
Drop Inn, Guiseley | Black Sheep, Bombardier and another | It's a little bit of a nothing pub this, but I do quite like it. It serves bar snacks and sandwiches. | Get the 33 from Otley bus station to Guiseley. Get off when you see the Morrisons at Guiseley. Turn left at the traffic lights, walk until you come to a roundabout. Cross over, turn briefly right, then left. The pubs a short walk later on your left. |
Fanny's, Shipley/Saltaire | About 8, changing | I love this pub - it's cramped, but there's usually sitting room upstairs, if you can find upstairs! Serves lots of good beer and is full of character. Doesn't do food. | Train to Saltaire if possible, Shipley if not. If coming from Saltaire, walk up the main street until you reach the road, then turn left. It's a short walk later on your left. If coming from Shipley, come out of the station near a pub, turn left to get to the main road. It's a ten minute walk straight up the main road |
Symposium, Idle | About 8, changing | Very cosy, very cool pub. It's also a very good restaurant, and it has the very strange thing that some of the tables can be booked if you turn up at the wrong time. | Get the 610, 611, 612, or 810 from Shipley Market Place or possibly the 810 looks like it will go from outside Fanny's. Get off the bus when you see Idle Church (think it's the Methodist Church). At the bus stop head back the way the bus came and take the first right down the hill. Go over the mini roundabout and the Symposium is a short walk later on your left. |
Corn Dolly, Bradford | About 6, changing | Very busy, friendly and cosy pub. The toilets are at the back of the bar. Weird. Don't know if they do food. | 610 611 612 all go from the top (Highfield Road). 610 is probably the least useful of the three as it goes down Canal Road, rather than Bolton Road, where the Corn Dolly is. 640, 641 go from the bottom (Albion Road). It looks like the 640 and 641 are the same bus going different ways. |
