Huddersfield and Hills.

Start at the Merrion Coffee House or the Swan Street Cafe in Leeds, or you could have breakfast in Huddersfield and start at the Head of Steam. I'll post if I find anywhere good. You'll need a Dayrover.

Merrion Coffee House or the Swan Street CafenoneGreasy spoon. Eat lots. Full English Breakfast is only £3.25. They do a veggie one for the same price. 10am. Walk up Briggate on the left hand side of the road. Go past the Grand Theatre and the Wrens and keep heading out of town, going downhill. Keep going until you reach a park. The Greedy Pig's on the other side of the road.
The Wrens, LeedsGood variety of beers, usually Landlord, Black Sheep and a couple of others.Really good city centre pub.11am. Walk back up towards Briggate and it's opposite the Grand Theatre, next to Harveys.
Rat and Ratchet, HuddersfieldGood variety of changing beersGreat little pub. Brews it's own beer too and it has such a large choice.Make your way to Leeds Train Station. Get the 12.08 Liverpool train. Come out of the Station and follow the road to your right. Keep walking all the way through the town until you get to the White Hart pub on your left. Turn left down that street and then turn right at Vision Express. Walk to the end of the road and you should reach the ring road. Cross it, first in front and then to the right and make your way down Chapel Hill. The pub's almost at the bottom. You'll arrive there about 12.35.
The Sair Inn, Hoyle Ing, Linthwaite.This pub brews all of it's own beer and it's all really good - Watch out for the Enoch's Hammer. 8.5% !This pub is right at the top of an amazing valley. It's a strange kind of pub because it's in the middle of a really quiet group of houses and you don't really expect the pub to be there! Maybe it's just me. Very friendly. Feels like it's been there longer than anything around it. Walk back up Chapel Hill turn left and walk to the bus stop. Get the 352 bus at 13.30. About 10/15 minutes journey, ring the bell when you see the Royal Oak pub on your right. Get off the bus and walk down the hill until you see the sign pointing to the Sair Inn. It's right at the top - steep walk, but it's worth it!
Riverhead Brewery Tap, MarsdenThis pub brews all of it's own beer too!All the beers are named after the reservoirs around Marsden. The pub is situated on the river and it's nicely set out and very friendly. Walk back down the hill and catch the 352 bus at 14.40 to Marsden. Get off the bus opposite a pub called the New Inn. Cross the road and turn left down the street at the side of the New Inn. The pub is on the left just before the river.
The Swan, MarsdenThwaitesThis is a nice local pub.Cross the river - it's right in front of you.
Waggon & Horses, MelthamTaylor's Landlord and Tetley'sThis is a pretty cool pub, and it's worth it for the bus ride alone. There's an OK pizza, kebab and curry place here too if you need food by this point.Walk back across the river and turn right in front of the Riverhead Brewery Tap. Keep going until you go underneath the arch for the road bridge. When you come out, walk to the end of the road until it joins Fall Lane. Walk up towards the shops ahead and turn left to the bus stop, which is next to a pub called The Old New Inn. Take the 335 bus at 16.44 to Meltham. DON'T MISS THIS BUS - the next one's at 19.46 from Peel Street!! You'll come into Meltham down a big hill and then you'll start to go up another hill and into a Supermarket carpark. When you come out of the supermarket, it's the second stop after that which is called Meltham Turning Circle. Get off the bus and walk right to go back to the main road. Turn right and then right again at the lights (The pizza place is at these lights) and the pub is on your right, after the Rose and Crown.
The Nook (Rose and Crown), HolmfirthLots of good ales.This pub isn't called the Nook for nothing. It's not visible from the road and you have to go in between two walls to get there. It's at the bottom of the hill, near the bus station. And it' ace.Go back to Meltham Turning Circle and get the 335 bus at 18.38 to Holmfirth Bus Station. DON'T MISS THIS BUS - the next one's at 20.06 !! When you get to Holmfirth, come out of the bus station, cross the road and turn right. Walk to the crossroads and walk between the little alley to the right of 'La Carniceria' to get to the 'Nook'
West Riding Licensed Refreshment Rooms, DewsburyVariety.Great pub on the station at Dewsbury.Get the number 20 bus at 20.03 from Holmfirth Bus Station to Huddersfield Bus Station. Walk from there to the Train Station. If you can manage it, there's a train at 20.34 to Dewsbury. If not, have a pint in the Head of Steam on the train platform at Huddersfield (it's always got plenty of good beers) and get the 21.17 instead. From here the trains back to Leeds run at 21.26, 21:49, 22:31, 22:51 and 23:26.
